J&K: New Power Supply Plan for Ramadan Month
The Power Development Department is contemplating a revision of the power curtailment schedule during the holy month of Ramadan.
Addressing concerns about power interruptions, especially during Suhoor and Iftar, Chief Engineer Sandeep Seth of KPDCL (Distribution) expressed the department’s commitment to enhancing and minimizing power cuts during these crucial times.
In an exclusive conversation with news agency, Chief Engineer Sandeep Seth revealed that the department is actively devising a plan to alleviate power curtailment issues specifically for Ramadan. “We are currently in the process of finalizing the new curtailment schedule, which is likely to come into effect at the beginning of Ramadan,” he stated.
When questioned about addressing power curtailment during peak hours, Chief Engineer Seth emphasized the importance of improving the power supply, particularly during Sahoor and Iftar.
He acknowledged that pre-dawn and dusk hours are critical during Ramadan and assured that efforts are underway to mitigate interruptions during these periods.
It’s worth noting that Ramadan is expected to commence this Tuesday. Against the backdrop of frequent power outages and distressing cuts across the Kashmir valley, KPDCL highlighted a significant power shortage of approximately 400 Megawatts (MWs) towards the end of February.
According to a KPDCL official, “Currently, we are facing a shortage of electricity, with an approximate deficit of 300-400 Megawatts. This shortage may result in certain areas experiencing distress cuts and unscheduled outages.”
As the holy month approaches, the Power Development Department is striving to address power challenges effectively, ensuring a more stable and reliable power supply for residents during Ramadan.
